The reporter learned from the national automotive product export work conference convened this time that: China has become the world’s second largest consumer of automobiles and the third largest automobile producer. Since 2002, China’s vehicle production has grown at an average annual rate of 45.8%, and it is expected to reach 8.5 million vehicles this year.
At the end of 2006, the total output value of the automotive industry accounted for 3.7% of GDP, and the number of people employed in automobile-related industries accounted for 1/6 of the total number of people employed in society. At the same time, China's auto industry level, independent innovation capability, and the proportion of self-owned brand cars in the domestic market have continued to increase, and auto exports have entered a period of rapid growth. From January to July this year, the total vehicle exports were 294,000, an increase of 70.3%, and it is expected to exceed 500,000 vehicles throughout the year; the export of parts and components was US$8.85 billion, an increase of 32.4%.
