Twist drills are one of the most expensive tools. The semi-closed cutting environment and special geometry make the drilling temperature higher than the turning and milling temperatures under the same conditions, and the cutting speed and geometric parameters of the cutting edge change, resulting in the service life of the twist drill. It is far lower than other tools, and it is difficult to adapt to the trend of high speed of machine tools and high hardness of materials to be processed. To this end, this paper selects ordinary and magnetized twist drills for drilling test under the same conditions, and uses the maximum number of drillable holes to represent the cutting performance of the drill bit. Based on this, the magnetization treatment is used to study the service life of the drill bit. influences.
1 Test conditions and methods
Drilling material: ordinary sheet, Q235, plate thickness 10mm.
Drill parameters: ordinary twist drill, material HSS, diameter 9.8mm.
Machine type: bench drill, model Z512B, speed 800r/min, manual feed control, coolant 5% emulsion.
During the test, a batch of twist drills purchased was divided into 4 groups, of which the first group remained in the original state without any treatment, and the number was 20: the second group was magnetized, so that the cutting end of the drill bit was N pole, and the end of the drill shank was S. The number of poles is 30: the third group is also magnetized so that the cutting end of the drill bit is S pole, the end of the drill shank is N pole, and the number is 30: the fourth group is magnetized and demagnetized, the number is 20 . The magnetized drill bit is placed end to end according to the N and S poles to avoid degaussing and affect the test results.
The test method is to drill holes on the sheet until the drill bit emits a certain noise, the blunt is severe and the cutting action is invalid, or the cutting part is damaged and cannot be cut, and the number of drilled holes can be recorded one by one.
2 test results
The results of the twist drill test in Group 1 without any treatment (20 test roots):

The second group was magnetized, and the drill bit was the N pole test result (30 test roots):
The total number of holes is 4,596 holes, and the average is about 153 holes per hole:
The third group was magnetized, and the drill bit was the S pole test result (30 test roots):
The total number of holes is 4461 holes, and the average hole is about 148 holes:

3 Results analysis
Comparing the data of Group 1 and Group 2 and Group 3, it was found that after the magnetization treatment, the average number of drill holes of the drill bit increased from 111 holes to 153 holes and 148 holes, and the average number of drill holes was 151 holes, which was increased by 35.2. %. It can be seen that the twisted drill can significantly improve the service life of the drill bit after being magnetized.
Comparing the data of Group 2 and Group 3, it is found that the twist drills which are also magnetized have different drilling ability. The twist drill with N-pole drill can drill more than the drill. Twist drills with N-poles have a long service life and better performance.
Comparing the data of the first group and the fourth group, it is found that after the magnetization treatment, the number of holes can be changed little, and it can be seen that the magnetization after magnetization has little effect on the service life of the drill bit.
In addition, by analyzing the cutting part of the magnetized twist drill, it is found that the probability of failure due to chipping after magnetization is far lower than that of the twisted diamond without magnetization. It can be seen that after the magnetization, the HSS is changed. The internal atomic arrangement can effectively protect the drill bit from impact, friction and local damage.
4 Conclusion
Magnetization can significantly improve the service life of high speed steel twist drills.
The cutting part of the drill bit is an N-pole magnetization treatment method, and its service life is better than that of the S-pole magnetization treatment.
The twist drill is demagnetized after being magnetized, and its service life does not change much.
