Recently, with an operator gently opening the valve, Shanghai Petrochemical torch gas desulfurization recovery system was put into use. The high-sulfur torch gas that was originally discharged through the flare combustion is processed by the system and then recycled into the gas pipeline network. This marked that Shanghai Petrochemical has taken another solid step in energy conservation and emission reduction, and has played a good role in promoting the company's efforts to tap potential and increase efficiency and improve the atmospheric environment.

Shanghai Petrochemical's flare gas desulphurization recovery system assumes the responsibility for the recovery of the high-sulfur flare gas produced by the company's affiliated aromatics and refinery units. At present, the system operates smoothly and can recover about 2000 meters of on-line torch gas per hour. At the same time, due to the recycling of these high-sulfur torch gases, the 4-5 tons of atomized steam per hour required for the original flare gas emissions was also saved. In addition, the sulfur removed from the system is treated as a commodity sulfur after being treated with a sulfur device, thereby realizing zero emissions in a true sense.

It is understood that during the construction of the system, only one heat exchanger, one liquid separator tank and corresponding pipelines were added, and the main part was based on the desulfurization tower in the original amine treatment plant. By utilizing its remaining production capacity, it not only saves the construction cost of the project, but also effectively improves the overall utilization rate of the equipment and achieves both.
