BASF, Dow Chemical, and AkzoNobel ranked in the top three
The United States "Chemical Weekly" released the latest list of global specialty chemicals companies. The rankings are based on chemical company's sales of specialty chemicals in 2012. The results show that the world’s top chemical companies are also top-tier specialty chemicals companies: BASF, Dow Chemical, AkzoNobel, DuPont, and Evonik are among the top rankings. The top five is unchanged from the 2012 rankings.
The integrated company still dominates. This is the second time that Chemical Week has ranked the specialty chemicals business. BASF once again became the leader in the specialty chemicals list. The biggest change in this year's rankings is the Ecolab Group, which jumped to sixth place, with sales of specialty chemicals reaching US$11,839 million. At the same time, after the company completed the acquisition of oilfield chemicals company Champion Technologies for US$2.3 billion, it exceeded DIC Corporation of Japan as the world's largest pure specialty chemicals company.
Eastman Chemical Company completed the acquisition of Solutia's transaction in January 2012, which resulted in a nearly doubling of sales revenue for specialty chemicals to $3.324 billion.
